Excused Absence Comedy offers advanced level of Improv and Sketch training for youth in Austin. Classes are taught by our talented and experienced teaching artists who prioritize a supportive, process focused approach to creating original comedy.
Grounded in Chicago style long form, our approach to Improv prioritizes finding the funny in what’s already there and communicating our ideas in original and authentic ways. We listen, say yes, and create together.
In addition to class performances and shows, our program believes in the importance of creating opportunities for students to collaborate outside of the curriculum. The result has been a tradition of youth troupes that operate with the support and guidance of the program, but who work to create shows that best support the ideas and skills of the group. We are brimming with pride over the success of these troupes, many of whom perform at festivals, theaters beyond our own and even tour upon occasion.
Classes, camps and workshops are available year round through Excused Absence Comedy and are available to schools, community organizations and beyond through Move Your Tale. We hope to see you soon!
