Improv, Stand Up and Sketch Camps for Older Elementary
All camps run Monday – Friday, most include an optional public performance at 5 the following Sunday.
Full and Half Day Options
Half Day Camps (9 to Noon) guide students through a high energy, structured curriculum. Full Day Camps (9 to 4) add lunch and an afternoon of student inspired, instructor guided projects. Past projects have included a short noir style film, a dance heavy variety show and a giant papier mache cricket. Afternoon projects frequently include collaboration between older and younger student groups.
Half day camps are $175.00, Full day camps are $295.00. Writer’s Playhouse & Around the World are full day only. Each camp explores a specific theme, but all have in common an emphasis on creativity, flexibility, collaboration and fun. An optional public performance takes place the Sunday following camp. Our teaching artists are regulars on the ColdTowne stage who bring a wealth of enthusiasm and knowledge to the classroom.
Improv Essentials – Older Elementary

Improv is instant comedy, but how do we make it happen? This camp is all about the joy of jumping in and finding the funny. Listening, saying “yes, and,” collaboration and flexibility are key. Though there is a focus on the basics, students with prior Improv experience will find an opportunity to strengthen their basic comedy muscles. Great for beginners. An awesome way to start the summer. Takes place at ColdTowne Theater, 4803 Airport Blvd.
Improv for Comics and Storytellers – Older Elementary

Summer is long. Why not learn some sure fire ways to make it entertaining? Improv games, comedic timing, hilarious characters and solid comedic delivery are all on the syllabus this week. Takes place at ColdTowne Theater, 4803 Airport Blvd.
Writers’ Playhouse – Older Elementary
June 26 – 30
June 30th performance
Participants will write their own scripts in the morning, and act them out with their very own acting troupe in the afternoon.They will learn to use basic improv principles to create their characters and plots. We will write and perform daily! This camp is for incoming second graders through incoming fifth graders. Public performance at 3:30 pm on Friday, June 30. No Sunday show. Takes place at ColdTowne Theater, 4803 Airport Blvd.
Comedy Countdown – Older Elementary
July 17 – July 21

A veritable buffet of a comedy camp. Improv, Stand Up and Sketch training for students of all levels. Master the short form improv game, sit down and write some jokes and collaborate to write and perform sketches. Students will spend some time working in each area, then focus on creating one or more pieces for performance. Takes place at ColdTowne Theater, 4803 AirportBlvd.
Improv for the Stage Older Elementary

Designed for students with improv experience, this camp goes beyond the basics of “Yes, and” to explore long form formats and grounded scene work. The goal of this camp is to create several small troupes who will debut at Excused Absence Comedy Fest and continue to perform into the fall and spring. Performance during the Excused Absence Comedy Festival to be scheduled. Meets at ColdTowne Theater, 4803 Airport Blvd.
StoryProv – Older Elementary

Lighthearted and fast paced, StoryProv begins with Improv games and expands ideas created there into stories. A chance to develop and communicate ideas. Takes place at ColdTowne Theater, 4803 Airport Blvd.

Improv and Sketch comedy go hand and hand this week. Improvised characters and situations are shaped into sketches and performed by our students at ColdTowne Theater on August 6th and possibly again during the Excused Absence Festival. This is one of our most popular camps, so sign up quickly! This camp collaborates with the middle and high school groups and is best for mature folks ready to focus on writing and performing.
